IE8 and version targeting // Jan 24, 12:51 AM

IE developers announced version targeting in IE8 on IE Blog. Digital Web offers a nice round up of varied reactions.

I’m convinced that this decision is a very bad idea. IE7 was a perfect opportunity to break free from the cycle of compatibility contingencies. Slowing down the entire web is huge price to pay for the sake of making standards–breakers happy. If at least the standards–compliant mode was somehow the default… Anyway, a reason enough to ensure that future generations of progressive web developers will continue to hate IE’s guts.
