iCab 4.0 Released // Jan 4, 10:16 AM
Great News! Gruber thinks it runs on WebKit. From the test I’ve run with my pages which include some css 3 properties such as text-shadow and other esoteric ones this seems to be true. UI is much nicer although I can’t get over how the bottom left of the status bar is rounded but the bottom right is not. Of course you can hide the status bar, but the fabulous thing about iCab is that it’s always been the browser which displays a happy face on standards-compliant pages, and a sad one on non-compliant ones. Hide the status bar and the smiley is gone.
Another noteworthy detail is that iCab displays a flash of blue upon clicking on linked anchors (much like the yellow fade technique used on ajax controls on Backpack and Flickr). “Files overview” feature is nice. iCab is also the browser of choice if you need any kind of kiosk mode. One thing that did stump me was how to exit the kiosk mode in iCab? To exit the kiosk mode in iCab use Cmd + Shift + K. This keyboard shortcut to my knowledge is not documented anywhere and is not a included in the menu. That’s my second, and really, the only serious complaint about this release.
